I Love My Bat

Purpose: Helps to improve your balance and swing path

- Tee should be placed closer than normal due to lack of bat length

- Lay the bat comfortably across chest with barrel slightly extending thru the back side

- You are feeling your load to launch coil on the back hip

- Removes full arm follow-thru and simplifies bat to ball

Sprinter

Purpose: Helps with using your hips to swing instead of casting with your hands

- Prestart with your back foot pivoted forward with your hip turned as if you were swinging

- You can use a pvc pipe or 2x4 piece of wood if you want to elevate the foot as an aid but it is not necessary

- There is no step here as you go into your swing finishing thru to the ball

Turned In

Purpose: Helps keep the front shoulder in with a straight stride and avoiding "stepping in the bucket"

- Think of being diagonally aligned with front shoulder point toward corner of plate

- Feel stride toward the "pitcher" keeping everything tucked and turned in

- Finish with a normal swing and follow-thru

I See You Baseball

Purpose: Helps with seeing the bat hit the ball and letting the ball get deep into the zone

- Position of the baseball is on the outer half by the back foot of your stance

- Your swing mechanics are normal here as you track toward the "pitcher" and changing your point of focus

- Your eyes and head remain on the ball the entire time not looking to where the ball is hit

I Can Hit Anything

Purpose: Helps improve confidence and trust in being able to hit any type of pitch in any location

- There are 6 swings in total! 3 front, 3 back

- You can modify this using a high tee or low tee for each placement

- Ensure that each swing is made in good form with your cues of load to launch coil and keeping your hands inside the ball

- Move the tee thru all areas of the plate

- It is not a race this drill takes time!

Flamingo

Purpose: Helps improve balance and staying back on the ball by eliminating the tendency to come forward

- Place all your weight on your back leg by standing tall with front leg elevated

- Think of how a pitcher raises and holds their front leg

- A good amount of time is a 3-5 second hold

- As your front leg starts to come down feel start to feel your start of your hitting motion

- All of your weight stays on your back side gently placing your front foot down to finish your swing

Hot Stepper

Purpose: Helps improve coordination and timing as you must have the right sequence and rhythm to get to the ball at the right point of your swing.

- Leave enough space for your self to start at the back of the batters box or a couple of stance lengths behind the tee

- Begin in a relaxed standing position not in your stance but standing tall

- Slowly walk forward crossing your legs without looking down and without your hands dropping

- At the point of meeting the tee, start your swing and finish thru the ball not stopping but continuing your motion

Statue of Liberty

Purpose: Helps with staying behind the ball and keeping the weight balanced throughout the swing

- Start by standing upright and tall with feet together

- Slowly start "drifting" your front foot forward until it lands

- At this point you are into your load to launch coil and finishing your swing making sure you do not finish on your front foot

Crouching Tiger

Purpose: Helps simplify swing removing the lower half and spreading the weight across your body

- Spread your stance to about the point where your feet are a little beyond shoulder width

- Think of a basketball player playing and guarding in a defensive stance

- There is no step here only your load to launch coil

- You are finishing with completing rotation thru the ball really using your legs

Soldier Sacrifice

Purpose: Helps improve posture and balance with weight distribution remaining on back hip building up core and leg strength

- Begin with normal stance and swing

- The key to this drill is the finish

- After you have hit the ball you can only drop your back knee down if you are under control and under balance

- The movement should be fluid and in one motion

Cobra Coil

Purpose: Foundational drill that is used in every swing as it sets the proper loading into the launch of your bat into the ball

- Start in your normal stance and feel your back hip coiling inward

- You can hold this for 3-5 seconds to accentuate the technique

- Uncoil and release your back hip using it drive your hands forward into the swing

Light Saber

Purpose: Helps to improve bat path isolating each hand as it contributes to the swing. This will also help build strength and balance

- Use of a lighter, smaller bat is ideal, if possible choke up on the bat

- Start with front hand and other hand across the chest

- Swing thru the ball finishing up

- Follow the batters box line as your bat path keeping hand inside

- Switch to back hand really using back hip to drive ball

Slo-Mo

Purpose: Helps to improve swing mechanics and feel by slowing down and methodically going thru each part of the swing

- Think of tracing the path of the bat up until impact

- Feel your load to launch coil as your bat approaches the tee

- Keep your hands back and use your back hip to move that bat to the tee

- Go from slow to fast progressing thru picking up speed as you go

Flying Ninja

Purpose: Helps create a power drive and strength of using the back hip to swing thru the ball

- The entire swing is normal with proper mechanics as it is the finish and last part of the swing that is important

- In one motion as you are hitting the ball, your back knee is flying thru

- You can picture an imaginary target where you are "punching" your knee like a karate or MMA fighter would

Into the Heavens

Purpose: Helps improve finishing thru the ball, being quick to the ball, eliminating a long swing and not pulling off and keeping your bat thru the zone the longest

- Split grip on bat with space between top and bottom hand

- Begin with normal stance and swing

- Imagine the form of the letter "C" with your swing finishing 3/4" of the way pointing to the sky
